Located in Milbank, this concrete slab bridge crosses 4th Street near Railway Avenue. The bridge is at the east end of what was historically a much larger yard complex in Milbank.
Built in 1910, the bridge was extended in 1913 for the widened for additional tracks.
This bridge does not conform to standard designs for this route. Most grade separations were single concrete slab spans, resembling large box culverts. However, this bridge features four concrete slabs, set onto concrete substructures, typical of grade separations in urban areas.
In addition to the different design, this is one of the only known structures on the route to feature some decorations. The next most similar bridges are located in West Minneapolis, along the same route. Those bridges feature more decorations, and more decorative piers.
Today, this bridge remains largely unaltered. Some spalling is noted on the bridge, although it mainly appears to be in fair to good condition.
The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design and old age.
